About
Universal Motors Corporation (UMC) is the Philippines' largest and oldest 100% Filipino-owned automotive assembler and distributor, established on April 2, 1954 by the Lee brothers and their partners in Makati City. Over its seven decades of operation, UMC pioneered the assembly and distribution of Mercedes-Benz vehicles starting in 1955, and later entered into an exclusive distributorship agreement with Nissan Motor Company Limited of Japan in 1971, concentrating on Nissan light commercial vehicles (LCVs) by the early 1980s. In 2014, UMC established Bayan Automotive Industries Corp. (Bayan Auto) as the exclusive Philippine distributor of Chinese-made BAIC vehicles, expanding its portfolio beyond the Nissan brand. UMC is a member of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and maintains a nationwide dealer network.
